Single-mother Florida bounty hunter Lori Anderson’s got an ocean of trouble on her hands. Her daughter Dakota is safe, but her cancer is threatening a comeback, and Lori needs JT – Dakota’s daddy and the man who taught Lori everything – alive and kicking. Problem is, he’s behind bars, and heading for death row.

Desperate to save him, Lori does a deal, taking on off-the-books job from shady FBI agent Alex Monroe. Bring back on-the-run felon, Gibson ‘The Fish’ Fletcher, and JT walks free. Following Fletcher from Florida to California, Lori teams up with local bounty hunter Dez McGregor and his team. But Dez works very differently to Lori, and the tension between them threatens to put the whole job in danger.

With Monroe pressuring Lori for results, the clock ticking on JT’s life, and nothing about the Fletcher case adding up, Lori’s hitting walls at every turn. But this is one job she’s got to get right, or she’ll lose everything...

Breathlessly paced, and bursting with high-voltage action and edge-of-your-seat jeopardy, Deep Blue Trouble is the unmissable next instalment featuring one of the most memorable and fearless female characters in crime fiction.

Review

I am delighted to host one of today’s stop on the blog tour for Deep Blue Trouble by Steph Broadribb.

Deep Blue Trouble is the second book in a series featuring bounty hunter (and ex-pole dancer) Lori Anderson. I reviewed the first book in the series, Deep Down Dead, early last year and you can read my review of that earlier book here.

I loved Deep Down Dead and I couldn’t wait to read this second book in the series. Fortunately, it does not disappoint. If anything, it’s even better than the first!

The story picks up mere days following their adventures in the first book. Lori’s mentor (and lover) JT finds himself behind bars. Desperate for his release, Lori reluctantly agrees to help FBI agent Alex Monroe with an 'off-the-books' manhunt in return for them dropping any charges against JT. This leads to another hair-raising adventure for the fearless bounty hunter, reaching cross-country from Florida to sunny California as Lori tries to locate escaped convict, Gibson 'The Fish' Fletcher, whilst being simultaneously chased down by the Miami mob.

Packed full of twists, turns and red herrings, the action-packed plot will certainly hold a reader’s attention and keep you guessing. The writing style is punchy, engaging and well-paced, providing a great flow to a suspenseful and exhilarating story.

One of the things I really love about Deep Blue Trouble are the characters. I was already familiar with feisty Lori, her sweet and brave daughter Dakota and her rugged mentor JT, from the earlier book, and Deep Blue Trouble sees the addition of some interesting supporting characters, including FBI agent Alex Monroe and bounty hunter Dex McGregor.  The interactions between Lori, Dex and his team add some great friction to the mix!

Deep Blue Trouble proves to be a thrilling and thoroughly entertaining tale – a real page turner and one that I’m happy to recommend! Steph Broadribb is quickly proving to be one of my favourite crime writers and I am already feeling excited for book number 3….

Deep Blue Trouble can be read as a standalone novel, however I would recommend reading the first book in order to get some background into Lori and JT’s current dilemma (plus the first book is really too good to skip!).

Big thanks to Anne Cater for organising and inviting me to take part in this book tour.
